Function rooms – what events can they be used for? 

Function rooms are rooms typically designated to official or formal social events or ceremonies. Generously sized, well-equipped and nicely presented spaces; function rooms are often offered by clubs, pubs and hotels. However, local schools – becoming increasingly well-known for their affordable, accessible and multi-purpose facilities – are rapidly taking over the function room scene; their main halls a popular choice for large scale events & gatherings. With this in mind, what are function rooms used for? 

What are function rooms used for? 

The term ‘function’ is relatively vague and – following suit – function rooms aren’t necessarily used for any specific event or social gathering. The main convention for function rooms being that they comfortably accommodate large numbers of people. 

Therefore, function rooms can be used for many different functions/events, such as: 

• Formal/business dinners 
• Charity fundraisers 
• Award ceremonies (business or community) 
• Launch events such as: 
  • Community initiatives
  • PR events 
  • Product launches
  • Brand showcases 
• Mayoral gatherings and dinners 
• Corporate away days
• Networking events

What’s more, venues that offer function rooms tend to also offer essential equipment, including: 

• Chairs and tables
• Basic A/V equipment 
• Toilets and accessible toilets
• Parking 

Whilst also allowing hirers to bring in their own catering companies, should outside catering be required for the event in question; often providing access to a kitchen area.

However, as with any event, it’s always advisable to speak to the venue you’re interested in, or the third party responsible for handling bookings, before making your booking to ensure you know exactly what they can offer you and what you and what you will need to hiring in/provide yourself for the event, as every venue is different.
