Sports hall hire etiquette

The etiquette of sports hall hire

Hiring a sports hall for your group, club or event is immensely exciting and can lead to many more opportunities for your sport club. And fostering a fantastic relationship with the venue you hire – especially when your booking is ongoing – is crucial to the success of your club or event. That’s why we’ve put together this simple guide on sports hall hire etiquette.

Sports hall hire etiquette

Food, drink and glass containers: With water bottles the exception, it’s good practice to assume you can’t take food, drink or glass containers – such as glass cola bottles – into a sports hall. But, if you’re unsure of the rules your specific venue has in place sound food & drink, always ask!

Footwear: Some sports halls will have specific rules and guidelines around footwear, depending on the surface of the flooring and the potential for damage. Some floors will be suitable only for soft shoes such as ballet slippers and other dance shoes, for example, whereas others will be hardy and more durable. As such, it’s a good idea not to wear studded trainers indoors or shoes that easily scuff surfaces.

Chewing gum: Chewing gum is sticky and difficult to remove from a multitude of surfaces, and it’s also difficult to detect if left somewhere inconspicuous. A general rule of thumb for sports halls and school facilities for hire in general is… no chewing gum.

Always ask: If you’re unsure of something, require additional facilities and bookings or need clarification on an aspect of your upcoming booking, always ask your venue or the third party you hired said venue from. The venue and/or their hiring team is happy to answer any questions you have and help you get the very most out of your booking.

The sports hall you hire for your club, group or event will want to foster a great relationship with you, just as much as you do with them – open communication and an understanding of any rules or guidelines specific venues have in place is good practice for maintaining a good relationship.

And always ask if you’re unsure!
